Where are you going?
We are constantly distracted by the physical. Lights and buttons, houses, cars, jobs, chores. So much to do, So little time! How can we do all this in 24 hours? Recently I was rushing about my day, and I felt so haggard! “When am I ever going to get a break” I thought.
Every single day it seems like we are surrounded by a barrage of tasks that need completed. We have phones and schedules that are a constant protection from bordom. and wheather its the news, jobs or lesure activity it seems that there is always something going on. If you think about it, we never have to sit and just “be”. We rarely have to really wait with nothing to distract us . While life is in some ways more comfortable this way, I believe we miss out on a lot of major blessings and opportunities by living our lives in a state of constant business and distraction.
Proverbs 4:26 “Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.”
And a few verses before,
proverbs 4:23 “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life
You know, it’s important for us to be mindful of what really is in our hearts and to really, deeply consider the direction we are going in our day to day activities.
Do we ever take time anymore to pause and reflect? Do we think past the things that are so busy crowding our time? Or do we just go, getting one thing done and then another. We are all busy. But are we busy doing the right things?
Reading proverbs this evening, the phrase struck me very deeply. “Ponder the path of thy feet”. I wonder how many days I’ve spent in a fruitless quest to check all the boxes on my little to do list; doing things that didnt really matter. How many times I’ve been carried away by the day, taking little thought to the bigger question of how I could glorify God that day Or how I could love my husband and son in a better way that day. I know we are all going alot! But are we doing the right things? I have to ask myself this question on a regular basis. Where will this path lead me? If I keep doing what I am doing right now, where will I be in six months? Six years? Would I still have a good relationship with my family and with God? Would I have moved forward in any of my goals? Would I be a better person?
God wants us to really think about what our lifestyle and daily choices will lead to. Ive heard it said that you can find a persons true priorities by looking on their calendar and in their bank records. With whom do we spend our time and where do we spend our money? Now, I would never do that to someone else. But it isnt a bad idea to do it to myself. Spend a little time today thinking about your priorities. How do they align with your actions and decisions.
Here are a few ideas to help make sure that you truly are walking the right path.
- Edit your life. List your habits, daily activities and time wasters. Next list your priorities and goals. Do the two lists match? Where does God fit in on a daily basis?
- Dont be afraid to say no! Number two follows closely with nuber one, but its easy to give our lives away to a job or succumb to social pressure and end up losing traction in our more important roles by saying yes to everything.
- Commit. Commit yourself to doing the really important things. Do something every day that will take you closer to your goals. Commit to intentionally showing love to your family every day. Make sure that every day includes a devotional time with God.
I hope this is a good reminder to ponder the path of your feet. Today, think about where you are, And where you want to be, and have faith that one day youll get there.
