Wallowing or waiting?

I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.”
Psalm 40:1-3

I waited patiently for the Lord. How hard is it at times, to wait and trust in the Lord even though you dont have an answer? You can see exactly how the psalmist felt in the following verse. He felt like he was stuck; unable to get out of a discusting muddy pit. He probably felt like he was dirty and trapped. But even though he may have found himself in that position, it was never Gods plan to leave him there. As humans we often find ourselves in places that we do not like. usually because of our own willfuness, ignorance or sin. The pit is a pretty horrible place to be, no one wants to be there for long. But sometimes because of the discouragement of satan, and the hopelessness we feel, we can wind up wallowing in our pit instead of just waiting in our pit.

Theres a big difference between waiting and wallowing. When you wallow in a pit, you’ve given up hope that you’ll ever get out. You roll around in the mud, making yourself dirtier and your pit deeper.  Your not looking for an escape your just looking to get comfortable.

When you wait in a pit its a totally different story. The idea of waiting involves expectancy; hope. You keep doing what you need to do even though your not where you want to be. You keep looking up, and calling out for help even though you cant see the rope yet. You stand, ready and willing to do whatever you need to do to get out. Most importantly you are listening for the voice of someone who is coming to help.

When you call on the Lord he will answer you. He will not leave you where you are. God wants to move you out of the pit your in and put you somewhere secure and stable. He wants to bring you out. If you trust in him he will establish you and strengthen you and settle you. When we are willing to do what He wants us to do and trust in Him and wait on Him, He promises that He will hear us and He will help us.

To truly wait on the Lord requires a listening ear and an open and surrendered heart. we have to be willing to lay our willfullness and sinfulness aside and commit to following the Voice of God. He has a new song for anyone ready to sing it, He has an established path for anyone ready to walk it. Are you ready to get up and wait?
